The Lycurgus Cup baffled scientists for a long time. It's a 1600 year-old Roman goblet that changes color depending on the direction of light that strikes it. It is jade green when lit from the front and blood red when lit from behind. In 1990, researchers in England discovered that the Roman artisans were nanotechnology pioneers, and their work was so precise.
